Post Malone Music Catalog

Music Catalog

Instructor: Keith Sommers

Introduction:

For this project, I designed a music catalog for Post Malone, one of my favorite artists and a major influence in how I think about genre-blending and visual storytelling in music. His sound moves fluidly between hip-hop, pop, rock, and alternative, which gave me a lot of freedom to explore a visual system that feels just as eclectic and expressive. I wanted the catalog to reflect his versatility, emotional range, and ability to shift between moods while still feeling cohesive as an artist.

To pair with his work, I chose the Memphis design movement from the late 20th century because of its bold, playful, and intentionally unconventional visual language. Memphis felt like a natural match for Post Malone’s genre-defying style and laid-back yet chaotic energy. Both challenge traditional structure—Post Malone through music, and Memphis through design—by mixing unexpected elements in a way that still feels intentional and memorable.

What is The Memphis Style?

The Memphis style (Memphis Group, emerging in the 1980s but rooted in late-modernist reactions) is known for its bright color palettes, geometric shapes, asymmetry, and layered patterns that often reject minimalism in favor of visual noise and personality. It embraces imperfection, humor, and bold self-expression, often combining clashing patterns and textures in a way that feels energetic and almost collage-like. This made it an ideal system for translating Post Malone’s dynamic and genre-fluid identity into a visual catalog format.
